Mountain Pose
(Tadasana)

One of the most important poses, in Tadasana one stands erect as a mountain, gaining awareness about correct alignment of the spine. Start with the inner edges of the feet together. Have the toes spread wide and the arches lifted. Distribute weight evenly between both feet, and between the toes and heels. Straighten the knees by firmly lifting the quadriceps. Press your thighs backwards as you press your tailbone forwards. Lift your sternum up as you drop your shoulders down your back away from your ears. Keep your arms as long as possible to your sides. Stand tall. This pose helps correct postural alignment. It also imparts a clear mind and increased focus.
